About Matt Mayer
-updated summer 2018
I am a comedy creator for TV, web, and stage as a director, editor (on the roster for the local 700), writer, and producer.
I worked for Funny Or Die, for three years, Directing, Writing, and Editing in NYC and LA. I made over 200 videos in my time there, including web sketches, branded content, and TV interstitials for IFC. Proud highlights include:
helping bring attention to the non-profit RISE, with the longer goal of passing legislation for sexual assault survivors, directing this video, Even Supervillains Think Our Sexual Assault Laws Are Insane. President Obama signed their federal bill into law in October 2016
having the honor of directing one of President Obama’s senior advisors Valerie Jarrett, along with personal hero Matt Walsh inside the West Wing of the White House in their video for the Correspondent’s Dinner, titled Valerie Jarrett Meets Her New Comedy Advisor Matt Walsh
working on videos for the ACLU live telethon, with Amy Poehler and Ike Barinholtz, Will Arnett, Mandy Moore, and Jack McBrayer and Jon Hamm
when Big Bird came to play
directing interstitials for IFC, namely the Yelling Man series
making this fun video with Pom Klementieff, better known as Mantis from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, titled Pom Klementieff Auditions For All This Year’s Summer Movies
Recent non-Funny Or Die work includes:
writing and directing a video for pro-immigrant nonprofit Define American
segment producing for season 2 of TBS’s Drop The Mic
editing for Jimmy Carr’s new American panel-style show for Netflix titled The Fix, with DL Hughley and Katherine Ryan
writing and production on Whale Thief’s pilot presentation for TruTV, How To Human
directing and editing the web series TAWK, starring Awkafina
field producing and editing for the TV show Take Me To Your Mother, starring Andrea Rosen
I also perform comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. I performed on their weekly improv show Harold Night for six years. I am a member of sketch comedy group Whale Thief, the team responsible for UCBNY's Sketch Cram, and the 24-hour-feature-film-from-scratch project Movie Cram, which you can read about in the NY Times.
I also made videos for the UCB Theatre and directed videos and shows independently for great comedians like Abbi Jacobson, Ilana Glazer, and Eliot Glazer.
